SEXUAL OFFENDERS
There are three types of sex offenders determined by the courts who have to report to the sheriff.
- Sexually Oriented Offenders report to the sheriff once annually for 10 years and there is no provision for community notification.
- Habitual Sex Offenders report to the sheriff once annually for 20 years and the sheriff may provide community notification only at the direction of the court.
- Sexual Predators are subject to registration and notification requirements for the offender's lifetime, unless a judge terminates the sexual predator designation, and they must verify residence address with the county sheriff every 90 days. After a sexual predator registers with the county sheriff, the sheriff is required to notify certain community members within a prescribed geographic area. Among the persons, the sheriff must notify are: school superintendents, police chiefs, neighbors (within 1000 feet of residence) and day care operators. See Chapter 2950 of the Ohio Revised Code for additional information.
